Top Technology Uses In Events

1- Quick updates via Twitter messaging through cellphone/wireless networks. Ally has a good post on this here.

2- Sensors for foot traffic calculations. This has been around for a few years, but its how the data is applied to streamline traffic, staff placements and reduce risks of bottlenecks thats important.

3- Interactive Video multi-channel dispay screens. Link this up with live web-casting and you’ve done a favor to all of those people who could’nt make it.

4- For parties, having LED lighting choreographed with music adds a level of oomph.

Great article on 5 signs your event is 1.0 and so true. Technology has changed it all where even though networking is a key thing at live events, if someone can't make it they can watch form home with say ustream.tv for example. Recently watched a ustream.tv event that helped answer questions and they used it for the pre-launch which set up excitement for the day the product was launched.

It truly is amazing the gadgets and sensors that can be used to track people and where they are to avoid bottlenecks thereby causing a more pleasant time for attendees who will spread the word in the future! Technology allows such interaction that event planners can truly build a community ahead of time through giving value!
  • I have an engineer friend who has an international GPS service...he markets for safety and security and for tracking fleets, moles, private detectives, parents with teenagers, parents with latchkey kids, stages etc. He said they are working on these to be the size of biz cards. The military and the ultra rich use them embedded in the body. We are there in terms of the technology.
How you would get people to okay it for a recreational event..mmm unless you had them embedded in wrist bands etc.
Twitter is certainly a superb tool to use to let people track and keep them in the loop
  • A great example how we can use technology to our advantage, if we keep an open mind.

Your bluetooth device may be on your wish list, but I don't think that this technology is that far out any longer. Or rather, the technology is already there, it is just that for privacy reasons we cannot use the technology yet. If you realize that they can already locate a person through his/her cell phone, than you know that the technology exists.

By the way, your examples are all fairly web 1.0. You are not mentioning any interaction with the audience. You see, that (to me) will be a true use of technology. If we can communicate with each other in real time and make someone who cannot attend feel like they are right there, that would be a real good use of technology for me.
  • It's great the good use of technology. There's no angel and no evil. A knife we use to cut an apple to eat can also kill. The quantity and quality of the current technology is astonish! Social Traffic, The story is a must see post! Thanks Simon
