The Inside Scoop - Examples Of Gorilla Marketing

I usually have significant fresh content running on my blogs that I like to share with members of my networks. As an example, I have a Facebook group for this book called “Social Traffic” with a growing number of fans and lots of traction. I pull content from my blogs onto this group on the “notes” page and tag prominent people (who have an authority on that topic) in my network so that the note shows up in their profile newsfeed. This puts me in front of the other people who see the update on their newsfeed. It also puts the people I tag in a position where they cannot resist clicking through to look. Basically, I attract an element of their audience to also become mine (if they are interested in the topics that I add in the notes). We collaborate on adding value to each other’s efforts, and in doing so introduce our followers to each other to follow. Through links to my blogs, I can effectively channelize this traffic into my sales funnel at almost no cost. That’s both collaborative Gorilla marketing and social marketing.

Just so you know; we have set this group up for all of you (readers of this book) to join and participate with us. We want you to become a part of the social traffic community, to share, collaborate and network with like-minded event marketers who understand social media and its role in their businesses. I personally encourage every one of you to come and join us, reading this book is just the beginning of our journey together.

People who are familiar with networking strategies often tag me back, in which case I leave comments on their blogs. The tag acts like a white flag, forming an unofficial syndicate of thought leaders who merge followings to establish instant social proof around their posts.

Very Clever Strategies one might say even a little cut throat, BUT the key in this article is that you are writing good content about your competition and not at any rate discrediting them, I would suggest this be the only way this technique should be used! It is all about being one step ahead of the rest.

    Thank you Simon

  • Building traction to a site by inviting others to watch a comment string is no different to getting people interested in a topic of coversation that they want to be part of. They allign themselves silently and are lead to the sales funnel willingly! How cool. Brilliant strategy and the book on social traffic is full of these tips - thanks Simon

  • Simon once said make your competitor your friend. He demonstrates clever ways of doing this by for example quoting them and then leading people to your way of thinking. This is completely legit and very compelling marketting - shot Simon Ford - the book yet again offers us value for money in the real world

  • Very clever to pull content from a blog to facebook page. It consolidates your thinking with a whole new audience and adds gravitas to those 'fans' already out there. Simon's tactics are legit and clever...loving putting them into action and getting results. Great book on Social Traffic with real smart methods for making the system work for US

  • Finding the best video otu there and then copying its style or content in a legitimate way is a sure way to success PROVIDED we do the key word search first. Tx for bringing that home to me Simon - the book is worth its salt over and over

  • Building social proof as Simon calls it through tagging has leant a large amout of credibility to teh field of social marketting. People who tag you often end up on your bloggs simply because you might tag them in return - it is a mutually satisfying way of networking as opposed to the old methods that relied on people digging up a business card of someone they could barely remember. Its good to be moving on iwth the times and Simons book on social traffic by makes it more possible

  • I agree with racerx 's comment about just connecting witht the bigwig's be friendly and boom you are part of the pack ...but I think its a little more complex in that one needs to add value to that friendship or association to be considered part of the in group. Simon reinforces this notion in his book on social traffic. Association is not enough. Add something of value to that equation and then consider yourself in the running!

  • It is a rare treat to get the inside scoop on anything these days and Simon's book on social traffic is just that. He elucidates in a very clear and open way just what we need to do to market online. He holds no secrets back and shares generously with us all - if we apply the tips and do the trade, we will make it happen. Tx Simon for the REAL inside scoop on guerilla tactics - often maligned but you do it with integrity so the rest of us can follow knowing we are behaving in the way online users demand of us.

Perfect example of using social media to capitalize on connections. Not only are you promoting your competitor's site, you're also promoting your own site and business. The same thing applies to getting to know the "bigwigs" in one's particular business...Just contact the "bigwig" and start a conversation. Get to know them and be friendly and helpful, and by association, you are also in the "bigwig" club!

  • Collaboration seems to be the new buzzword in the sales world - such a different approach to the dog eat dog philosophies of yesteryear. My sense is people are afraid to try this collaboration thing until it is proven to work. Go risk it - Simon is right, it is the quickest route to success. His book reinforces this too and shows us exactly how to collaborate so the risk becomes minimal.

  • I think Simon makes a good point when he says the content has to be compelling - it is not enough to pull people to your page you have to keep them there and then hold them there long enough to push them into the sales funnel. It is not jsut about getting yourself up the rankings. Great advice from Simon

  • what a great tactic to optimize our pages iwth keywords- I would not have thought of that one either - these clues to success keep coming from the book on social traffic. My wife tried this one as an experiment and upped her rankings for her business in two days! I look forward to doing the same with SM Marketting

  • The great thing about this book is that you DONT have to be a huge tekkie or very savvy with all things computer to get it right. Simon gives step by step instructions in his book on social traffic that make this world accessible to everyone. I definately didn't have the skills before reading it and now I feel a confidence in this arena that is usually only attributed to the young kids out there who were born into the lingo.Competing on fronts is now fair game

  • Totally agree with Maerichl when she says the pie is big enough for us all. Collarboration with guerilla marketting does not make us less likely to get the deal it makes us all more visible and all more likely to win. the book on social traffic highlights just how to collaborate and then teaches the financial bits we can do alone. Tx Simon great input in a structured way

  • Important to be true to who we are but FIRST TO WORK OUT WHO THAT IS! In that way tagging, viral videos, ezine articles ALL SAY THE SAME THING. I think this is the first part to guerilla marketting and Simon Ford practices what he preaches here. Not one to offer what he can't but he sure delivers what he can.

  • Love what chickefitz says about not being able to bypass the relationship ladder - this is integral to the whole process. Yes Guerilla marketting allows you do what you have to in the name of success but like the guerilla fighter you have to be true to the cause...social media only works bec people trust other people. Simon makes this point lucidly in his book on social traffic

  • Clever tip from Simon to make a video against already viral videos in youtube. This gets people to follow you that you would otherwise not have accessed. Yet another idea from SM traffic book. Great thinking Simon thanks. I also like the notion that you can feed people this info by directing it all to facebook - that way followers don't have to leave the page they are on...often a deterrant. This keeps people hoooked online and more directed to the sales funnel

  • Simon you are so right. We do need to be true to who we are. Guerilla marketing is simply being very focused on the "who you want to be" question. In the jungle, a guerilla fighter is one that is singularly focused on his (or her) goal of freedom. They are willing to do what it takes to get to the "objective". It takes not only focus but courage. Shortcuts don't work in a guerilla marketing environment. That is not to say that it can't be a viral process, as it can, but no matter what, you can't bypass the whole relationship ladder.

  • This is one of your best posts Simon and really helped me see the value of tagging, keywords, leveraging off other viral content and most importantly sticking in my niche.I had let that go a little in the past few days and was trying to "be eveything to everyone".Have gone back again and written down what I am not. Thanks so much

  • It's amazing how quickly we continue to forget the answers to 3 simple questions that should really be at the forefront of what ever we do.

    Who am I?
    Who am I not?
Who do I want to be?

Maybe it's because we're all so busy trying to be something others want us to be?

  • I love this strategy of being collaborative in both Gorilla marketing and social marketing. Frankly there were times when I thought I was the "lone ranger" in terms of marketing, but now I see that we can work in teams to accomplish a quantum goal. There's plenty to go around -- there are literally milliions of folks out there to share our "products" with -- be it information, or manufactured goods, or services, etc.

Wow incredible tips Simon! This blog post alone can change a person's business if they follow your advice. I saw your last point with the real estate example work with the Google Friend Connect campaign that took EventsListed to number one beating Google!

Very powerful point on linking blogs together and helping each other through adding value to each other effort's. Great networking strategies with tags. Extremely powerful point about notes and tagging against images and videos to establish conversation.
Thanks for all the points here and in your book Social Traffic!

  • This was one of my favorite tactics covered in your book, "Social Traffic."

This tactic is very powerful and most people, unless they are extremely web savvy or have read your book would never even think to do this. I am actually planning a campaign centered around this.

  • This is a great gorilla marketing tactic. At the same time you are promoting the greatness of the other you are attracting attention to your content. This is similar to the way the paparazzi or live commentators gain celebrity..they hang near the celebrities and make comments good and bad. People listen and if they are really good the celebrities do too so in the end they may seek out these commentators to help them out to as that is certainly the fastest most direct way to get the desired attention.
It is interesting how it is translated into FB or other platforms.Regardless of the niche, there will always be leaders that people want tolearn and work with. Why not you stepping up to the plate.
