Facebook 3 - Promoting your business

Gone are the days of traditional marketing. The strength of your Facebook presence is going to define how effectively you can promote your business, products, events or services to your market. Remember, Facebook is just the tool - you are the marketer who has to get it right.

Since we have already talked about Facebook profiles, groups and pages in our previous post, lets just quickly go through the fourth important element in promoting your business - the Social Ads. These are additional paid branding options within Facebook, to allow you to reach a wider network and reinforce your branding.

These ads can be shown based on your specific demographic and keyword requirements. It is an incredibly cost effective channel for marketing to niche segments based on pay per click (or view) modalities. Spots are given based on bids so make sure your bids aren’t too low, or you may risk losing to competitors. Because of its excessively focused placement, it is bound to get great traffic to your sites. You can make these ads interesting by adding a picture and tagline that will appeal to your market

Get yourself some ad spots before the big market players jump in with their endlessly deep pockets.

  • I think Facebook offers great possibilities to businesses in promoting their company and connecting with a big group of possible clients.. Facebook is really a social network, so you also have to watch out.. I think you have to stay social within Facebook, even as a client.. and don't start with using bots!

Aside from the trivial Facebook apps (Mafia Wars! Zombies!) which granted, still make a lot of money, Facebook is a really great promotional tool for businesses. The social ads are a good opportunity and should be taken advantage of.

Love your visual diagram and you are right Facebook is just a tool that we need to get right. Your discussion on branding and reaching a wider network can happen through ppc but at this point I am looking at more organic and google adwords.

Then as FB ads are more widely accepted to use certain keywords and demographics to reach folks. Right now most people in personal profiles are communicating with friends where as the ads are accepted more and stats show growth then maybe more folks will switch over from Google to target their niche market. Thanks Simon.
  • To this day, I've never even focused my eyes once on ads in Facebook, so I don't think I would spend my hard earned money on this particular medium. I have had so much more success and traction with my integrated strategy of videos and blogging, plus article marketing, which I've just recently started in a big way (or should I say "Dugg" into).

Facebook is a great place to specify who your ads is shown to. You can specify the location, ages between 13-64, sex, keywords, education, marriage status, gender, languages. After selecting the above filters you will be shown the estimated number of people that your ad will display to. So if the number of people is too low you should broaden your filter selection like a wider age range or select more locations, which will increase the number of people that your ad will be seen by.

You can either bid on either cost per click(CPC) or pay for Impressions(CPM)
  • I have heard that the Facebook ads do very well and are cheap. Just as you mention in your article also. Despite these facts, I am hesitant to even try this kind of advertising. I am not informed enough to do well with PPC.
I am going to see if I can stick with the free options and create traffic that way.
  • Promoting your business on Facebook the right way and grabbing the ads in your niche before the gold rush.. great tips.

I only used facebook to find relatives and friends whose numbers I had lost before.... but learning the power of what you can do with your Facebook profile, your business profile and the analytical tools attached to it has opened up a whole new world ...what a fantastic marketing tool it can be ..not to spam people, but to join groups with the same business interests, or make your own, for other people to find. People who are already looking for information about what you are talking about ...

Loving this training Simon and the team at Social Traffic.
  • Simon, unfortunately I don't want the association with "baskets" or basket suppliers ... LOL, I'm looking for the high end collectors and galleries! (I've seen the ads that pop up on my hub page and ... that's fine, they don't cost me anything.
