What the world gave us, and what we gave it in return

We pride ourselves in etiquettes and sophistication. We give gifts of kindness. We try to spread messages of love. We teach our kids to return gifts with gifts. I would like to ask you to stop and think for a minute about this. Do we really return gifts in kind? Do we really prefer those things for others that we would for ourselves? Do we really go out of the way to fight for something that our inner conscience believes to be right? Are we born with the instinct to tell the difference between right and wrong? Do we really know how to show gratitude to all the entities that we are indebted to - the earth, our creator, the world, the people, the air that we breathe? Can we really ever count all of the blessings we have been bestowed with? Do we really deserve all that we have? Can we really never take time out for those around us? Are we really selfish and self-centered and busy and aloof? Are we more insensitive today than our forefathers were? Are we immune to getting affected by the wrong-doings around us?

I have so many questions that I would like to ask myself. I have so many questions that I’d like you to ask yourselves. I have so much to share and talk about - if only the world would be willing and ready to listen. But today, I just want us to think about the basic etiquette of returning gifts.

Unfortunately, we haven’t been so good at it. In fact, I’d dare say, we haven’t really been good at all. Period. Do you think we have? I’ll let you decide for yourself.

Our earth gave us this:

We replied with this:

Our earth gave us this:

We answered with this:

————————————————————————————————————————————–

Our earth gave us this:

We responded with this:

————————————————————————————————————————————–

Our earth gave us this:

We ignorantly made it into this:

————————————————————————————————————————————–

Our earth gave us this:

We arrogantly brought it down to this:

————————————————————————————————————————————–

AND THEN WE WONDER…. WHY THIS HAPPENS:

  • It's amazing how much damage we have done to the earth. Arguably, even scarier is that the degree of damage is increasing. What a beautiful planet!
