Social Networks

Throughout my life, I have been studying and testing ways of how to effectively market events. I discovered soon enough that it all comes down to getting people excited about a thing and enabling them to build their own stories around it. It’s about building evangelists. Evangelists are people who are sold on your service so much that they go around marketing it for you, for free! I found out about the “American Idol 2006 concert” through a fan even before it was announced. I found out about the details of the “Macworld” through a fan. I found out about a local “Eastern fusion dance party” through a fan. So if these ‘fans’ are so good at marketing events to other people, imagine what they can do for your business.

Marketing events using social media tools is about creating the right campaigns that have the maximum impact. Social networking channels offer a lot of flexibility in crafting out our messages just the way we want them to be. You can measure the impact and reactions of your messages and adjust your campaigns accordingly as you go. Let’s briefly discuss how you can use one of the most popular social networking platforms these days. I’m sure most of you have heard about Facebook.

    Event Launch Strategies: Social Networks

Social Networks (i.e., Facebook, Linked In, Plaxo, Ecademy, etc.) are indeed the most cost effective and efficient online channels to viral (aka word of mouth) market your brand and/or product/service offering.

Why? Because you are engaging your target audiences feedback on how to compelling craft it in order to make it appealing - so that they will be comfortable in promoting it unabashedly to their own family, friends, colleagues and fans, at no out-of-pocket cost to you. Now that is what I call guerilla marketing at its best!

  • It has been long known and practiced by cult leaders that having evangelists to bring new recruits into your events is the best way to go about things. They get a small group of leaders and filter the message down having them go out and bring in new people. We now have the capabilities to do this on the Internet using tools like Facebook and twitter.

I look forward to the continued development of the social traffic course and mastermind to develop new techniques as this social media space continues to change rapidly. Staying on the cutting edge will be key to successfully using this and being the market leaders going forward.

Chicke I have to agree with you. The way Simon has been using twitter to target local events is quite brilliant and proving to be extremely effective.
  • I find your tip at the end of this article very interesting Simon, as Google has gotten a little big for their britches of late. Twitter has certainly taken the social media scene by storm and I think executives all over the word of mouth media world are a bit stunned by the cottage industries that have sprung up all around Twitter to maximize the momentum.

I've seen how you are managing your local campaigns and weaving in your Twitter strategy. Brilliant really.
  • With so much going on right now sometimes it's easy to forget
the lessons that you have taught us.

Even after reading the book twice I go into action and forget my
battle plan. I guess the excitement of finally doing something
    different can be overwhelming.

I'm reading your posts again so I can craft my new game plan for the
book club. I started off on the wrong foot, but I caught it before it got
    out of hand.

Building hype, then trust are the only way to make things happen.
