Aggregators

Each one of us wants a hassle-free way to search for content online. Going through a multitude of web pages to unearth exactly what we are looking for is not only time consuming, but also fuels monotony. However, the problem has been solved with the introduction of aggregators. As the term implies, aggregators amass syndicated web content, such as blogs, news headlines and podcasts, all in one user interface.

Aggregators would not only be beneficial for you to find updates regarding your desired content; in fact through social aggregators and life-streaming you can stay updated on what others are doing on various social sites. You can read the blog posts they have written, the ratings they have given, the pages they have bookmarked, the comments they have made on blogs and also the new pictures they have uploaded or videos they have added as favorites. In short, you will be able to monitor what others are doing on the web.

The mechanism of aggregators is not a technical one at all. All you have to do is register on a social aggregator (e.g. Friendfeed, Yahoo Blog log, Second brain, Facebook, Flock or Plaxo) to name a few which is as easy as signing up on any other platform. You can import all of your social contacts, whether they are on MSN, Gmail, AOL or hi5. Furthermore you can also add the websites you visit. Add your social circle on to your profile and after that enjoy the hassle-free manner of staying up to date. You can also subscribe to the feeds of other people and stay updated on their actions…

  • Aggregators like "friendfeed" facilitate a efficient way of ammassing information from different sources into one place. Keeping your finger on the pulse of diverse sources becomes simple. Like felling a forest with a brand new chain saw.

If the essence of making a success in the Social Media environment is the deliver value. This process needs to automated as much as possible. using an aggregator to amass valuable data to distribution is a basic component to anyone following a strategic approach like that Simon U Ford teaches. Thank you Simon..
  • I agree Steve. Clearly the essence of success is to add more value and therefore a tool to post widely is a great strategy to increase results at quantum levels.
  • To anyone, the power of aggregators (aggregation?) is enormous. In this era of everyone attempting to "tweet" their way to attention or gain a following by being the "guru" (sorry, couldn't resist), aggregators are an important part of any marketing campaign. We plan on using them extensively in building up our network.

Social Aggregators are time savers and more efficient ways of staying up with your niche and the community involved. Your point is well taken about learning more about your prospects and their interests which allows you insight on approaching them and staying in touch with their interests. The old days you might send them via snail mail an article on their interest where today you can reach them immediately sending them the article.

Getting definite recommendations for yourself with the aggregators opening up so much more information for us,is awesome and so effective. Thanks Simon for a great post and a great book with "Social Traffic"!
  • Search engines continue to evolve and get better but still has a long ways to go. The thing I love most about aggregators is their ability to bring your favorite content to you all in 1 place. This saves tons of time and hassles of going to lots of different websites. It also allows me to keep up with all the various websites I follow whereas before it was impossible.

Using them for marketing purposes and combining multiple feeds into 1 feed (through Yahoo Pipes) is powerful to get your desired message out to yoru audience.
  • Aggregators are awesome for keeping up on what's hot. It takes the place of reviewing the local newspaper for me. Sure, the information is not the same... but it's more relevant to me based on you've I've chosen to follow closely and the topics they cover that are of extreme interest to me. It's an inch wide and a mile deep -- in terms of coverage -- compared to other media which can be the opposite.
  • You're absolutely right in its ability to be much more narrowly focused too only the topics you are interested in. That's the beauty of the Web that you can sort your information based on keywords. My granddad still reads the newspaper but really he doesn't read the whole newspaper.

He's only interested in the A & B sections of our local newspaper so the rest just goes to waste. With online aggregators you don't have to have any waste because if you find there's something you're not reading you just unsubscribe to that RSS.
  • One of the most powerful things I learned from you was the use of aggregators.

Before the Social Traffic training I was using some of these aggregators, but didn't really understand them. Now I'm using them to create mashups of all the best content specific to my niche from all over the web.

Content aggregation is one of the most powerful tactics for online marketer. The future of the web depends on friend rank. Using aggregators properly is an essential tool for getting your friend rank up.
  • Jonathan,

I am glad you are using aggregators and RSS feeds in this new and innovative way. I have begun to play around a little bit with Yahoo pipes which is a specialized service that will allow you to combine multiple RSS feeds into one united stream.

I don't know how Yahoo does this but it can definitely be very advantageous to further aggregate your content into a central location. And this will be key in dominating your marketplace in the future because if you can stay one step ahead of the news and current trends in your market you'll be ahead of your competitors and everyone will follow you instead of them since you're always first to market and on the cutting edge.
  • Yes I have only scratched the surface of these aggregates..but they certainly are a time saver. They make it easy to find those posts or writers you like to hear from.
As they lets us known people and their likes/needs/dislikes more easily they are making us each a BIG BROTHER in our own niche or social community. No wonder the privacy acts can't keep on top of them.
  • I would love to know whether it is worth your while to participate in a plethora of content aggregator sites, or whether it is wisest just to focus on a few.

Any insights? Time always seems to be the arbitrator of this kind of thing, as there are only so many hours in the day.
  • It depends where you're audience is. How and where you're building an audience. No point syndicating content where people are not seeing it. It comes down to what you can do with the resources you have.
